The Regional Minister of Lombardy Region Martina Cambiaghi responsible for Sport and Youth met on 18 October 2018 at the EU district in Brussles with several EU parties dealing with these policies.
STRONGER ROLE OF SPORT AT EU LEVEL
The kick off was at Italian Permanent Representation to the EU where Ms Cambiaghi met with the delegates responsible for education, youth, culture and sport. Both parties agreed to strenghten the role of sport at EU level and advocate for its eligibility for EU funds, as Erasmus+.
LOMBARD MODEL FOR SPORT
“Sport should be included in the negotiations of the funds beyond 2020 given its comprehensive role in terms of social inclusion, promotion of healty behaviours and medical prevention”, said Ms Cambiaghi,.
The latter totally in line with the Italian Government that praised the so-called Lombard Modell for Sport.
A COMPREHENSIVE ROLE FOR SPORT
Minister Cambiaghi presented such best practise to Antoaneta Angelova-Krasteva, Director of innovation, International cooperation and Sport of the Commission DG Education and Culture.
“Sport should have a bigger role to play and should be considered not just for its competitive meaning but also for its beneficial impact on health, values and education”, Ms Cambiaghi added.
“It would be therefore logical, concluded the Minister, to exclude the investements in infratructures for Sport of the calculation of the debt-to-GDP ratio for the Stability Pact”.
This also bearing in mind the candidature of Milan-Cortina to the Winter Olympic Games 2026.
